Interesting insight as it relates to your experience with Substack. It is very generous of you to share your metrics which I enjoyed given I am a marketing geek. I have been blogging since 2008, my primary objective was to project my company’s positioning as a thought leader, plus act as a marketing tool to stay connected to my network. Currently I am reevaluating my blogging strategy to better understand how I can expand my reach beyond my loyal Tribe (small given the amount of energy I have expended) as I work at repositioning my business to get involved in the transformation of the current food system. Your posts re: Substack have been helpful.
I am waiting on the Monthly Marketing Minute to decide if I will be a punter. I enjoyed your TS piece to several members of my network which I thought was excellent, but to date zero responses.
Thanks for sharing your ideas, Jimmy! Wow you're an old skool blogger, I started in 2005 myself. In my mind, the tradeoff with Substack versus your blog is one of reach vs control. You can build a following and exposure for your ideas more easily on Substack it seems, but you have far more control over content that you create on a platform (blog) that you own. The downside on the blog is that growth happens at a much lower pace.
I'm still trying to get the proper mix down myself. I'm focused on growing Substack for now, but I suspect at some point in the future when I feel like Substack is doing better, I will turn my attention back to my blog.
Another option could be to use Substack as a way to figure out which topics resonate with your audience. You could even take your most popular Substack issues and repurpose them on your blog as a post. Maybe update it with more stats or research. Whatever is relevant to your audience and that helps you reach your goals.
Good luck, appreciate you reading and commenting. Let me know how you get on.
I appreciate your input. Made me think about revisiting Derrida's philosophy of deconstruction and analyze my current blog. However, my industry comes back to life Monday, thus I have to focus what is currently on my plate targeting companies implementing sustainable business strategies.

As always, thanks for sharing Mack. Especially your cadence. I'm also implementing a more consistent rhythm of both writing and engagement. My writing almost always tends to be on the day and I've never written an article well in advance, which is a bit stressful at times. I also don't engage anywhere near enough, so want to make that part of my daily routine, which also includes a regular cadence of notes too.
The other thing I want to experiment with is shorter articles too (so I like the 'minute' idea) as I tend to prefer long form writing.
I’m having the same issues right now with falling behind on engagement. Another reason I want to get ahead on my writing, so I can spend more time engaging. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Congrats buddy, the effort shows ! Keep up the fantastic work !
Hey, thanks Alex!
Love these update posts! I’m still in the first phase as well and getting close to 200 subscribers now. Truly enjoying the journey! ✨
Hege you are doing wonderful, my Substack sister!

Engagement is 1.) Time consuming; and 2.) An art which most people don't get since it is easier to hit the like button.
This is a nice overview. Those stages and also plan prepared :) My favourite part is with movies! :) Can’t wait for next issues. Happy NY! :)
Thank you Nika, I like Marketing and Movies as well! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! 🥳😇
