Thank you, Neela! I will say, your recent post on how much energy costs are associated with AI development was a bit of a bummer, it may dent how pervasive AI becomes. Or maybe they will come up with ways to lower the cost. As long as there’s a dollar attached :)
Right to the truth. We have more time than we think, and when we act on these desires time does a magical thing where it stretches, and the mind does a wonderful thing, and gives you ideas. Your brain becomes a beacon that finds ways to refine what you know, and how to say it effectively.
That is a BRILLIANT point, when we act, time stretches. Same way is seems to slip through our fingers when we don’t use it properly. That’s just brilliant.
Thank you for reading 🙏🏾 this is something I've experienced myself. Similarly you feel more energetic and focused when your thing aligns itself with a purpose.
I started writing a couple of years ago. I will be 56 in a month. Best decision I ever made. I am building a life I want. I couldn't stop writing for anything.
My grandmother is 104. I am 46. If I have her good genes I have a long way to go!!!
That said, I am not sure I want to make it to 104. Yes she can walk and eat on her own, but she can no longer bath on her own or remember what happened yesterday. Not gonna lie it's hard to watch.
Anyway I keep working out, and pushing my brain to try and stay as functional as possible for as long as possible.
My grandmother has lived as long as she has because she never stopped trying new things, keep her mind engaged with sewing, quilting, needle point, knitting, ect for so many years.
She learned how to use an iPad at 90 and got into listening to audio books and colouring when her eyes couldn't do sewing or needle point anymore.
She even worked with a personal trainer at 91 and learned how to get herself off the floor on her own again. She has made new friends over and over again too.
She moved into a retirement home at 100. Then this year a nursing home. Keep moving. Keep learning.
Substack is one place I push my mind, keep trying new things is what I learned from her. Mentally and physically.
Dinah that's a wonderful story. I will say, I think Substack helps us stay young, mentally! So many people in their 50s and later doing so many amazing things, with no thought to slowing down. Love it!
Thank you, Sara! I just read and enjoyed your post on the potential economic impact of AI. I agree, in many ways this almost feels like it could lead to a ‘do over’ for many of us, at least economically. We shall see!
What a beautiful post ❤️
Thank you, Mia :)
You are never too old to start something new. And yes, 55 now is not what it was decades ago It is halftime :)
It really is, we have more time than we realize :)
This confirms how I feel at 46…I’m just getting warmed up for real
Also 46. This is a whole new chapter of life.
Yes it is and I’m enjoying the journey 😊
You are still 2nd quarter! Lucky!
Even without future medicine, aging isn’t linear anymore.
People have second and third career arcs now in a way that didn’t really exist at scale a generation ago. I only just got started :)

Then you definitely don't want to read next Tuesday's post 😂
I'm working on another article from a user perspective on ways to lower their own costs. Stay tuned.
Oh that should be interesting.
As I'm turning 50...I can totally relate to this. I am constantly renewing my mind when I find myself feeling behind...
Hi Sydney! I do feel behind in some areas, but I also feel like there is plenty of time left to catch up. Good feeling to have! Hope you are well!
This is such an encouraging post.
